Friday has come around very quickly with being on leave from the day job. We’ve had a lovely three days away at Alton Towers, a theme park in the West Midlands, UK. Tomorrow we’re off for our second adventure, this time it’s camping for a few nights and we just have to hope that the strong winds on the forecast don’t arrive just as we’re trying to set up.

MARKETING & PROMOTION

Sales and page reads have died a death now I’m doing no form of paid advertising. I don’t know if that’s because it’s August or just the way it is at the moment. I’m keen to try out more advertising and I’m not sure whether to go back to Facebook or to use this lull as a good time to try out AMS (Amazon Marketing Services) again. Setting up AMS will take up quite a bit of my time so I can’t do that until at least next week. I will see if I get any time today and perhaps start up a Facebook campaign again.

I need to follow up all of the free copy readers of my writing an publishing books I haven’t had any updates from those readers or reviewers for a while. Also with the THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE off to the editor soon I’ve been thinking about how I will promote that. My thoughts currently is to set the first book at 99p/99c and do some of the paid promotion services and advertise in my groups, much like I did with IN THE END in the early days. It needs loads more reviews before I can use paid advertising through AMS or Facebook.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I have 18,000 words to go, plus formatting before THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE goes off for edit. I can see that being the end of next week if all goes to plan.

I need to think about booking my cover designer soon, which I will probably do when the second book is back from the edit and I know the paperback page count. I’d get it done now but I want to defer the cost as long as possible and I’m in no great hurry to release it.

I have the question of what to work on next battling in my mind. One part of me wants to write STOPPING POWER season 2 as I have a great idea for where I’m going to take it, and I know it will help sales of season 1, which are no where at the moment. The other part of me wants to write the new sci-fi time travelling comedy. I have even thought about finishing the third book in the FATE’S AMBITION series whilst I have book 2 still in my mind. Once that series is complete it will help me promote it.

It doesn’t help that having more books of different genres is good for sales at events, whilst having complete series is better for selling online.

What I think I’ll end up doing is writing the first part of the time travelling comedy as a short story and put it out for my group members and fans to try and then crack on with STOPPING POWER season 2.

I want my STOPPING POWER series to be my headline series as it is a great lead in to all of my other work, in particular the other Carrie Harris books, which sell very poorly online, but get a boost when STOPPING POWER sells.

With all this going on in my head I have to remind myself that the key is to write more books. Selling books is great, but creating content to sell in the future is my priority.
