MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – COVERED

It’s never fun coming back to the day job after some time off, but it’s been a busy week which keeps my mind on track. The winning ways of the Lionesses have also helped to distract me from real life. I hope they can get the job done in the final on Sunday!

WORK IN PROGRESS

Work has started on the copy edit of THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE and I’m expecting it back by mid-October at the latest and by that time I hope to be a good way through the edit of book three, which still doesn’t have name. I’m just about half way through the first pass, so it’s progressing nicely and I’m enjoying rediscovering the story.

Following an ad on Instagram I’m trying out a new cover design company whose prices are cheaper than the price I’m currently paying, but from what I have seen the quality is still there. The clincher is that you only pay once you are satisfied with the end product. It means that I can get all three books in the series covered, including paperback, audiobook and the supply of marketing materials at half the cost of what I’m paying now. If I didn’t get the marketing materials (which I don’t get from my current designer) then it would be a third of the cost!

I will of course let you know how they progress and share the details once I’m happy with the supplier. They appear to have an affiliate programme too!

EVENTS

Last week I was in Salisbury and it was a resounding success. Selling books from across my range, I made the level of profit I have come to expect from the venue when in the main hall. Despite the early poor weather and the football game in the morning, the footfall was continuous throughout the day.

A highlight was a buyer from a previous event seeking me out having read THE GEMINI ASSIGNMENT and really enjoying it. She bought LESSON LEARNED.

Next Saturday I’m in Lyndhurst at a venue and town which I haven’t tested. I’m pleased to see the venue has it’s own car park, which makes my life much easier! Watch this space to find out how it went.

MARKETING & PROMOTION

I’m still running Facebook ads for the IN THE END series and it’s still just about covering its costs. I’m hoping that the page reads get a boost soon as much of the income is coming from purchases of audiobooks, ebooks and paperbacks.

I haven’t given much thought to any other marketing or advertising, but still have Amazon in the back of my mind.

Right. That’s it for this week. Back to editing. Comments and suggestions welcomed as always.
