MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – ROBIN HOOD

Almost as soon as I publish this post, my wife and I will set out to take our eldest daughter to university near Sherwood Forest. It’s in part a sad day because we won’t see her again until December but it also marks the start of her new life as an adult, which of course is the whole point of having kids. She’s a well rounded, clever young lady with a great work ethic, so we know she’ll be fine. Plus it means we’re getting another step closer to living our dream of moving house and changing our lifestyle for something more relaxed.

EVENTS

It was all about the morning in Thame on Saturday. Inside the hall it must have been 33 deg C / 91 deg F, but it wasn’t much cooler outside. I sold fifteen books before lunchtime but that faded to only selling another three to those brave enough to come out into the heat. I ended the day will a decent profit, and what is becoming my new elevated average. I also had the bonus of selling seven copies of FATE’S AMBITION which means I’m ploughing through the stock of my old cover copies.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I have the completed cover back for FATE’S AMBITION, along with all of the marketing materials and I’m super happy. Once I’ve shared it with my mailing list in the coming weeks, I’ll share it here.

I’ve now commissioned the cover for the second book, THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE, and that should be with me shortly after next week. I can then start the transition of FA’s cover.

I have THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE back from my editor and once again she’s done a great job. I fixed all of the issues in a couple of days and now it’s formatted and ready for my last read-through before it goes to my wife for proof reading.

This has meant I’ve paused my current editing pass of the third book at around 2/5ths through but I’ll be picking it up again within two weeks.

MARKETING & PROMOTION

After writing last week that my Facebook ads were doing okay, they immediately died off and during the weekend I halted them in order to have a re-think. I ended up redesigning the advert, with the help of my friends over at the WRITTEN UNDEAD and I’ve kicked them off again. I will wait a few days to see if it works.

I’m also redesigning adverts for my other books too. Here is what I have so far.

That’s it for this week. It’s time our road trip, then tomorrow I head off for a weekend of wild camping with two of my mates. Comments and suggestions welcomed as always.
