MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – BACKWARDS

After the success of publishing my first book in 2018 (IN THE END) I made a decision to not only write and release the complete trilogy, but to also re-edit and release the six novels I’d previously written.

With yesterday’s release of SHATTERED DESTINY it means that I’ve finally fulfilled that decision and it takes me to ten fiction novels, two non-fiction books, two novellas and two shorts stories published!

  • IN THE END Trilogy (3) + Novella (1)
  • Agent Carrie Harris Series (3) + Novella (1) + Short Stories (2)
  • James Fisher Series (3)
  • Stopping Power Season One
  • Survivor – Your guide to surviving the apocalypse
  • Your Book Won’t Sell Itself

MARKETING & PROMOTION

With my tweaks to Amazon advertising my costs have gone right down, but so have the sales. That is apart from one peak in cost, which produced a load of clicks but no sales. At least now it’s at a level where I can cope with it. I will continue monitoring.

As I mentioned last week, in preparation for the release of SHATTERED DESTINY I put Fate’s Ambition up for free on Amazon just to try and get some interest in the series. I used free marketing services, submitting to a total of 12 email newsletter services. I only got notifications from three of them so I don’t know how many others went live.

Anyway, I ended up getting 810 downloads, whereas my target was 100. I consider the first part of the strategy a success and I now just have to wait and see if that concerts to sales of the following two books!

In the UK the book hit 109 in the ‘Free in Kindle Store’ ranks, plus it got to be the number one download in three categories (Science Fiction Adventure, Fantasy Adventure Fiction & Men’s Adventure Fiction). I can also see that I have three new ratings already.

In the US the book hit 2,382 in the ‘Free in Kindle Store’ ranks and high up in three categories. (3 in Mystery Action Fiction, 4 in Fantasy Adventure Fiction, 17 in Action Thriller Fiction).

As the timing of the deal is American, the deal has only just ended.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I had some more feedback from alpha readers for LOST AMONGST THE STARS and it was all very positive. One reader gave me some excellent areas where she thought it could be improved and I totally agreed, so I’ve already integrated them into the first part of the story.

The first part has now grown by another 1,000 or so words and the second part stands at 13,000 words. Onwards and upwards!

I’ll leave you with something interesting that happened this week. The producer I was talking to about doing something with OPERATION DAWN WOLF remained on my mailing list, and out of the blue this week she contacted me. She asked what LOST AMONGST THE STARS was about and so I replied with a couple of paragraphs outlining it. Now I’ll wait and see if she likes what I wrote.

Catch you next week!
