MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – REWRITE

WORK IN PROGRESS

I’m on the last couple of chapters on this revision round for LOST AMONGST THE STARS and the manuscript stands at around 62,000 words. I had planned to continue rewriting and revising part two of the story but I’ve been thinking that one of the main supporting characters needs a bit more to them, something that makes him stand out and be more likeable. As I was showering after a run, it came to me! The trait is something I’d already played into the character but now I’ve decided to push it to more of an extreme. It should be great for the book, but it does mean I’m going to have to rewrite, to a greater or lesser degree, almost all of his scenes.

I’m not complaining however, this is all part of the process!

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

With sales in doldrums my next current free marketing is for OPERATION DAWN WOLF which will be 99p/99c from Sunday for a week. I’ve added it to all the free third party mailing lists and so we’ll see what comes. I’ll also send it out in my latest newsletter. I’ve also made the decision to give everyone on my list a free copy of episode one of STOPPING POWER, Season one.

EVENTS

Saturday saw my first event of the year and I had my new banner and business cards at hand. The table looked great and I was excited to see people arrive. It took me a few moments to get back into the swing of things but it all came quickly back.

I had low expectations of the day as typically the shoppers don’t tend to start upping their spending until later in the year. The low footfall bore this out. I made my first sale after about an hour and then trickled a few more until the place deserted at around lunch time. But then things got better. I sold a complete set of the James Fisher series and people started buying. FATE’S AMBITION blazed the trail but I sold the other first books in the series as well.

At the end of the day I’d made a just below average profit, which was very pleasing for the first of the year! I even talked to a customer about LOST AMONGST THE STARS and they would have bought one if it had been ready! I also managed a few follow up sales after the event.

The next event will be back in Thame, one of my favourite places and I hope it lives up to its history.

That’s enough of me for today. I will catch you next week for more. Comments and suggestions welcomed as always.
