MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – HIGHLIGHTS

LOST AMONGST THE STARS

I have author copies of the paperback and I love it! There are not many things greater than getting the first delivery of a new book. I can’t wait to see what the public think of them in Wallingford, Oxfordshire this weekend!

I decided to go ahead with the audiobook for this story and at the weekend I posted the project on ACX. After four days I had over thirty auditions. I easily whittled them down to seven candidates, then had to make some tough decisions to get to the final artist. But it’s done. The deadline for completion of the audio is end of August.

I’ve also decided that I’m going to get the FATE’S AMBITION series produced for audiobook but I’m going to do it on a royalty share, which although I will get less profit, it means I don’t have to lay out £3,000 up front! I might wait until LATS audio is completed first as it might be too much to have to review two audiobooks at the same time, and it’s my least favourite author task.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I’ve spent the last week or so outlining the ending of the second in the LOST AMONGST THE STARS series as I need to know where I was heading with the work. I got to where I thought the book would end, then realised there was much more of the story to tell. It’s all pretty much set out now and I’m on target to stay within my maximum word count of 70,000. I’m now back to writing the first draft.

A couple of days ago I started playing with a cover for the new book, and even a title. I think I’ve come up with them both! The cover is in the same theme as the first book, as is the title, and also the subsequent books in the series.

EVENTS

Tomorrow I’ll be in Wallingford in Oxfordshire and it’s a new event for me. With my new author copies, I have to play around with the table setup, plus I’ve had some new table signage printed, including book inserts to highlight key parts of each first in series book.

MARKETING & PROMOTION

This latest Facebook ad campaign has dropped down to an average of 50% profit and so I’m thinking that despite having a very large target audience of millions, it’s coming to a saturation point. Rather than pausing the ads, I’ve instead decided to downscale them back to £5 per day and see how that goes.

That’s it for this week. LOST AMONGST THE STARS releases when I next post!
