MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – COUNTY

This is the last day of two weeks off the day job, and although I said I’d post still, I kind of got lost in camping, theme parks and generally relaxing. Now I’m back.

WORK IN PROGRESS

Despite the amount of doing not much these past couple of weeks, I’ve completed a surprising amount of writing. I’m within 3,000 words of finishing this current revision run and taking my time to make sure everything I’ve put into the story so far ties in for a great ending. Although I’m working hard on this part I’m in no hurry to get to the end as it’s a key element in getting the book right.

I had news yesterday that the audio of LATS is progressing and the first 8 chapters are now ready to review and sign off. I hope to get to them soon and get the audio out there.

Reviews and ratings for LATS are trickling in, and I’m giving away a lot of review copies in this effort. People are loving the book and the feedback is positive, but I’m taking note that they say it’s a great introduction to the characters but that they hope to see more depth in the next book. Reviews stand at eight in the UK and the magic ten in the US.

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

I’m continuing on with ads on Facebook despite the performance being underwhelming. It will be interesting to see if this is an August slump or whether I need to take a break!

EVENTS

Lymington on the south coast of England went okay a couple of weeks ago. It was a little below average and both these summer events have been a bit of a let down. I’m back in Lyndhurst tomorrow and then will really know whether I will be booking again for next year.

I got some advice from a fellow author about giving county fairs a go. The table prices are about five times the cost, but that’s for two days and open for ten hours. The author was saying that he can typically sell over two hundred books. I will be looking into this for 2025!

That’s it for this week. I’m desperate to get on with some writing!
