MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – SPOIL

WORK IN PROGRESS

ADRIFT AMONGST THE STARS is progressing very well and I’m on to the second revision where I’m adding in more detail and concentrating on ensuring the characters have more to them, including backstory. This draft is already speeding along nicely despite a little distraction relating to some secret work on LOST AMONGST THE STARS which I can’t really tell you about, other than to say it’s to help get it on other, perhaps more popular, entertainment formats!

I’m heavily into the review of the audio for LATS and it’s going great. The narrator is awesome and there are very few things I have picked up to change. I dare to say, I’m kinda enjoying reviewing it this time as he’s bringing so much life to the book.

I’ve already turned my thoughts to what I’ll write next and I think it will either be the third in the Parrallel Worlds series, to make it a trilogy before I take a longer break, or it will be an Agent Carrie Harris short story, before I write the third in the sci-fi series. I have been thinking more about writing a short story for the FATE’S AMBITION series in order to promote it, but I’m just not sure what I can write that would introduce the characters and premise of the books without giving the game away. It could perhaps be something from the protagonist’s earlier childhood and give a hint at what he can do. It can’t be a story based after the series takes place as that would spoil the series.

EVENTS

Last week I was back in Lyndhurst which a month ago achieved an average profit. This time the weather was terrible and I had no idea how this would effect the market. The first hour was dire, but then it started to pick up and turned out to be a three figure profit and the second highest income from a non-Christmas event. I sold three box sets, two of the Agent Carrie Harris series, along with single books from across the range. Next week I’ll be at Godalming and historically I’ve not done well there so I haven’t booked for next year. Let’s see if I can turn it around!

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

Facebook ad performance continued to barely cover costs until Wednesday when I got a nice little bump which carried on into Thursday. Let’s hope this is a sign that the summer slump is over and it’s back to decent profits again!

I’ve given loads more copies of LATS away for reviewing and I’m up to nine reviews in the UK. Give it a couple more weeks and I’ll start following up people. Reviews mean everything in the early stages of a book!

That’s it for this week!
