MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – COMIC

After an amazing weekend away with my wife for my birthday, it’s back to normality. Bath is such a great city with plenty to do during the day and loads of great bars for the evening. My day job seems to have gone crazy and I feel like I’ve lost a bit of time on the publishing side.

An awesome thing to come out of the weekend was finding a market stall which sold signs. I had to grab this one when I saw it and I’ll try it out at Salisbury event this weekend!

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

Since the last post I’ve made some changes to my Facebook advertising. I’ve reduced spend from £10 to £5 per day on IN THE END as it was consistently not getting sales over the budget level, in a repeat of not being able to scale the ads. In addition I now have three adverts in the ad set which basically means that rather than showing the same ad image all the time, it rotates between the three. This does two things. Showing a series of images might intrigue the viewer more and secondly one image might work better than the rest so now there is a higher chance of the image being clicked. If one image has a much better conversion then I may just switch to that image alone. Facebook recommends using multiple ads in a campaign.

I’m now back to getting more than the budget per day in sales.

I have now added an advert for YOUR BOOK WON’T SELL ITSELF. I’ve put a budget of £2.50 per day, which low but keeps the risk low too. I’m getting some clicks and have had one sale so far. I need a sale a day to make this worth it. I will look at it again over the weekend.

Here is a look at the two ads I’m running. I think there is more work to do, but I will review soon.

The only ad I have not changed is the one for STOPPING POWER as it’s generally make around the budget of the ad spend, so because I want to get sales for reviews, I don’t mind keeping it running even if it’s only just paying for itself.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I submitted the feedback on the audio for STOPPING POWER on Monday and hopefully the amends will be made soon. This will have a positive effect on the ad campaign so the sooner the better.

I’m 35% through the current revision draft of THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE and it’s coming along nicely. After losing time on this whilst being away I caught up whilst being off work on Monday.

EVENTS

I’ll be at Salisbury tomorrow for another craft fair, a location that is normally strong for sales. I’ve also signed up for my first Comic Con! This is being held in Maidenhead in October, the town next to where I live and the cost is about the same as the average for my craft fairs. I will bring lots of zombie book stock but I’ll also have the rest of the books available.

If this one goes well then there are lots of other cons organised by the same people around the country too.

That’s it for this week. Stay happy and feel free to let me know your thoughts as always!

  • Hi GJ,

Hope it’s another productive summer. Any seasons better than others for book work? Have a great weekend,
