MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – BOMB

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

Last week I mentioned my frustration that my ads weren’t performing and so I decided to change tack and advertise the free novella reader magnet for the IN THE END series and therefore my mailing list. Well, along with getting 75 new subscriptions, my page reads and sales are up too, some days up to a level when I was running direct sales ads. I can only imagine the two are related.

I will keep the current ad running until the new signups drop off.

NEW RELEASE

STOPPING POWER Season one audiobook is now available on audible. This is the first audiobook I’ve made wide and it will be interesting to see if it was the right decision or not. Next week I will do a mailing list newsletter and include the release. I don’t want to do one this weekend as I’ve only just sent one out.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I’ve finished the round of editing for THEIR RIGHT TO VENGEANCE and as soon as I hit publish in this post I’ll be running the 109,000 words through ProWritingAid. That review should take me about a week, I guess, and then it’s another read-through before it’s off to my editor. In a few weeks I’ll be able to see if I’ve lost the ability to write a thousand words a day after editing for so long!

EVENTS

Lewes in East Sussex was a dud! Well that might be a little unfair, but for me, at least in the context of last week where I was one book sale from breaking evening, it wasn’t good. I could blame it on the location or the thunderstorm that came mid afternoon, or just on the wrong people coming out shopping, but either way it was my worst event so far. Saying that, I had another couple of people come to see me from Facebook, this time two fellow horror authors, both of which bought a copy of IN THE END (which inflated my sales figures). It was nice to meet them both in person and an excellent networking opportunity.

I’ve just made the application for next year’s events and I’ve stuck to two events per month until the last four weeks before Christmas when it will be almost every week, both Friday and Saturday. As last year I haven’t booked much for July and nothing in August but I’ll book them later in the year when I know what we’re doing holiday wise.

There are only three events I haven’t booked at and that’s Lewes, Lyndhurst and Lymington. These could be options for the summer though.

Okay. That’s me done for the week. No event this Saturday, then it’s Abingdon the week after before a short summer break. See you next week. Comments and suggestions welcomed as always.
