It’s been a warm one this week after a wonderfully quiet weekend spent with the family where we ate BBQ and watched the lionesses do us proud despite not going quiet as far as we all wished.
Outside of the day job and writing, it’s been about preparing for our eldest to fly the nest, well kind of, as she goes to university. I’ve also been wrangling dates with my friends for our annual wild hike, which are now settled. It’s always a great inspiration.
WORK IN PROGRESS
With regards to the writing, I’ve been getting plenty done. I’m at about 3/4 through the first editing pass (not bad after three weeks), despite finding a chapter missing from the manuscript. One of the great things about Scrivener is that nothing is ever truly deleted and I found the pesky verse in a special folder and returned it to its rightful place with very little hassle.
I’ve not heard back from about the first designs for the new cover for FATE’S AMBITION but their timescales mean it should be before the next week is out.
EVENTS
This Friday is Lyndhurst and I hope I have good things to report next week. I found out this week that out of the blue Abingdon council are now allowing the event company I use to book events for 2024, a u-turn on their previous decision, so I’ve booked two dates for next year. One of them is a swap and the other is a new date altogether. It is well worth it as it’s spoken so highly of and my experience has been positive so far.
MARKETING AND PROMOTION
The campaign on Facebook was still just about covering cost, so I’ve created new ad copy and changed to a single image to see if I can rekindle the great numbers I was getting when I first started re-running campaigns. Oh the heady days of a two hundred percent return on investment!
I think that’s it for this week. As always, whenever I get down about sales, I just remember that the key thing is to keep producing good quality prose and the rest will eventually come, especially when I have more time to put to the marketing side.
Comments and suggestions welcomed as always.
Hi GJ,
Congrats on your eldest. Happy and sad moments watching the kids leave the nest. I am always impressed on your commitment to writing. How do you balance that with marketing, editing, shoes, etc? It’s really about time, right?
Thanks,
Gary
