MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – STARS

EVENTS

I attended an event at Hungerford last Saturday and it was make or break as to whether I would book the space again for the 2025 season. In my previous three events I’d had two that barely broke even and one that was under average. The fourth event was to be a test. It failed. I ended up selling a few books but I only made a profit just under £20 so it’s clear Hungerford does not suit what I offer. There are plenty of other sites that are more profitable, but it’s a shame as the parking was very convenient!

Tomorrow I’ll be at Abingdon which has been excellent the last two times I went, so hopefully this will continue to the trend. The following week I will be at Henley and then I have a weekend off.

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

I’m still advertising on Facebook and with page reads and sales, I’m at least covering my costs. Link dropping is surprisingly yielding a few sales too whereas I have previously found it to be pointless.

For the last couple of days the page reads and sales are definitely slowing and it’s been two weeks. Over the weekend I will refresh the campaign and see if that helps, but I don’t plan to change much else.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I’ve got one more read through for part two of LOST AMONGST THE STARS and then it’s time for ProWritingAid again. I might even have the book wrapped up for edit by the end of the month. Allowing two months for edit and production, I have the beginning of July as my target release, although I still think the first release will only for a private print run for my events whilst I shop it to some specific literary agents, one of which I have in the forefront of my mind.

I’m not certain yet about whether I use the cover I’ve designed, or get a proper cover done. If I take my own standard advice then it should be the later, but I love what I’ve produced. However, they could make it better! Perhaps I will wait until the results from shopping the book around are done.

That’s the end of another short update. See you next week for more of the same.
