MY PUBLISHING JOURNEY – FOCUS

EVENTS

Last week I was at Witney in Oxfordshire at a craft fair hosted in the Corn Exchange. One of the great things about Witney is the parking is free, so along with the lower end price of the space at the event, my costs were low.

The day started quietly and it was an hour before I made my first sale, but then they continued to come. I sold pretty steadily throughout the day, with the odd burst of activity here and there. I had some interest for the dyslexia friendly edition of IN THE END but didn’t sell a copy, however it was another great talking point with many people. The addition of that edition and STOPPING POWER meant I had to move things around the table rather than having my usual format. It seemed to work well and I already know where my publishing book will sit when it’s ready.

Overall the event was a great success. The low cost of the event, steady sales of a wide range of the titles, along with selling some books not written by myself, gave me a decent profit. My next event is Cranleigh on 29th April which produced a decent profit last year and has very convenient parking!

WORK IN PROGRESS

Other then progressing the ideas for the time travelling sci-fi story in my off time, my main focus remains on Their Right to Vengeance where I’m about 70% through the first edit of the draft I wrote oh so long ago. I’m still enjoying discovering the story but can’t wait to get to the next run through.

My publishing book is due back from my editor any day now and I’ll switch focus on production of that one when it does. Hopefully I can have it ready for Devises on 27th May. Having it available for the event the couple of weeks before may be a stretch.

FACEBOOK ADVERTISING DIARY

Here are the latest entries of my advertising diary for the week where by I’m recorded the stats from my IN THE END Facebook ad test to determine if this is a long term option for boosting my income.

Friday 14th & Saturday 15th April

I didn’t have chance to record this on Saturday morning.

With only two sales in two days the stress level has risen, but at least I’ve just about covered costs each day. I had a fleeting idea to stop the ad whilst I’m still in profit but then I reminded myself that this is an experiment. Hopefully this is just the sagging middle part of the month before people start getting paid. We’ll soon find out!

Yesterday was an amazing day for Kindle page reads, added a third to the total of the page reads this month, earning almost £10 on their own. As this was so large I feel this was some sort of catch up but time will tell. Stress levels are at their all time low because waking this morning my reports already show a sale for each of the three books in the series and almost a book full of page reads too.

With a strong day of page reads again and audiobook sales it could well be one of the highest profit days so far, let’s hope as we get closer to the end of the month the trend continues!

That’s your lot for this week. Feel free to drop any comments and suggestions!
